“I grew up on the prairie, where, typical of young girls, I was preoccupied with innerscape and barely noticed the landscape. Landscape was there to be sped through on the way to someplace else. Now, I live in the city, where horizons are hard to find, where flat is a place to live, each journey home has become a discovery. I see the drama that was there all along. Vibrant colours and patterns, skies that astonish, and yes, even hills. Take this backdrop, add to it the natural play of light and shadow, and the most humble of structures is transformed into something splendid.”
